While we wait for the Lunasol Floral Purification spring collection, here's a peek at my Lunasol eyeshadow palettes.

Lunasol is a line owned by Kanebo (and thus indirectly by Kao), exclusive to department stores.  It's been around for a while but originally had dismal sales until they refocused the marque on refined beauty.  The refined beauty ideal is reflected in their packaging.  The cases are a lovely mirrored bronze and are indeed very elegant.

For those of you who read (or look at the photos like I do since I don't read Japanese), Lunasol was just featured in the Voce Brand Book.  The Brand Book helped me place these in chronological order of release.
Lighting for Eyes - 2005
Lighting for Eyes is a palette series that borders the pearly and microshimmer categories but leans more towards shimmery.  This has been an immensely popular line which is why all the palettes except 02 Cool are still available.  Interestingly this is the palette series which has the annual holiday releases.




Prismatical Eyes - Spring 2006
I think this was the Spring 2006 release but I could have it mixed up with fall.  Most of this series has been discontinued.  The only two left are 01 Green Prismatical Eyes and 02 Orange Prismatical Eyes.  It took some searching but I eventually found the blue variation (I couldn't resist the blue-brown combination).

Scent Form Eyes - Fall 2006
Scent Form Eyes is a fairly shimmery palette series but not as shimmery as Geminate Eyes or Sheer Contrast Eyes.  While 02 Leak has been on my list for a while, it keeps getting bumped by other wants.  Below is 01 Casablanca which has been discontinued.  It looks fairly similar to the upcoming Magnolia palette.

Skin Modeling Eyes - Spring 2007
Skin Modeling Eyes is the first series from which I purchased a palette.  Most of the colors lean more towards pearly than micro-shimmery except the upper left shade which is a glitter.  I am rather fond of 01 Beige Beige because of its wearability.  It has been ranked #1 in the last several Voce Beauty Awards.  04 Beige Aqua was just discontinued and EX-01 Beige Cool was one of the Summer 2007 LE palettes.  EX-01 Beige Cool is one of my favorite palettes ever.



Geminate Eyes - Fall 2007
Geminate Eyes is the second most shimmery palette series from Lunasol.  As the name suggests, it was inspired by gemstones.  I actually didn't care much for 03 Diamond but 04 Sapphire is another of my favorite palettes.  If you like EX-01 Beige Cool, 04 Sapphire is a pretty good substitute.


Sheer Contrast Eyes - Spring 2008
Sheer Contrast Eyes is the most shimmery palette series from Lunasol.  I like the bright colors.  This was an instant hit over in Japan.  02 Lavender Coral is my second most favorite purple palette (Jill Stuart 04 Gem Amethyst is my favorite).  03 Blue Coral is a very nice blue brown palette that yes, is also on my favorites list.  The 2 LE palettes are quite nice too.




Noble Eyes - Fall 2008
Noble Eyes is the latest palette series from Lunasol.  It is quite a departure from the direction Sheer Contrast Eyes was going.  It's a pearly rather than shimmery palette and pretty neutral based.  I rather like 02 Deep and 03 Red.  They were the palettes that sold me on red on the eyes.


I hope you enjoyed the little tour of some of Lunasol's past.  The new collection will be released on 16 January 2009.

do you ever do EOTD or FOTD? I couldn't get any of my Luansol e/s palettes to work. wonder if you have some pictures? Thanks

I'm shy so I don't do EOTD or FOTD. I find using brushes with Lunasol works a lot better than the sponge applicators. If I have time later this week, I'll see if I can't sketch some of the designs and email them to you.
